Horsemen’s Seating Policies

Updated for Thoroughbred Meet 2013

Horsemen Admission and Seating Policies:    Apply to all current Virginia Racing Commission licensees (VRC); current members of the Virginia Horsemen’s Benevolent Protective Association (VHBPA) and current Virginia Harness Horsemen’s Association (VHHA) members.   These privileges are extended to our horsemen and up to one guest.

*Virginia Thoroughbred Association (VTA) Seating Policies:  Apply to all current VTA members with current membership cards. VTA members are entitled to free general admission on all racing days including the Virginia Derby and access to the Horsemen’s (VHBPA) Sky Suite for the first 25 people each race day, excluding Virginia Derby Day and Saturdays. 

Credentials and Reservations:  To acquire tickets and/or wristbands for box seats, Jockey & Turf Club restaurants, and the VHBPA Sky Suite, please visit the Guest Services office with your current VRC License to receive a wristband and ticket.  If a horseman chooses to bring guests, he will receive a discount for himself and up to one guest and must purchase any other tickets at full price.  You must obtain proper credentials before access can be granted, upgrade charges may apply, and advanced reservations are recommended.

General Admission

Licensed horsemen and Virginia Thoroughbred Association* members, are entitled to complimentary general admission on every race day, including Virginia Derby Day.

Outdoor Seating

Grandstand Seats:  Licensed horsemen are entitled to complimentary outdoor, grandstand seating on all race days, excluding the Virginia Derby.

Box Seats Horsemen Viewing Area:  Licensed horsemen are encouraged to use Box #9 as a viewing area during their race.  Box #9 is located in the outdoor, box seat area of the grandstand.    The viewing area will be available on all race days excluding Virginia Derby Day.  Horsemen must show a current VRC license to the box seat ushers for access to this area.  We ask that you leave Box #9 shortly after your race runs so the owners and trainers in the next race my utilize it.

Jockey Club Restaurant (Third Floor)

Horsemen’s Section (NEW!):  Licensed horsemen (up to 56 people per race day) are entitled to complimentary seating in the Horsemen’s Section of the Jockey Club on the glass of the first tier, on the green side, near the 1/16 pole, (Tables: 1001, 1002, 1003, 3001, 3002, 3003, 3004) with proper credentials on all race days, excluding  Virginia Derby Day.   Daily reservations must be made with Guest Services to receive tickets and wristbands.

Jockey Club Bar and Lounge:  Licensed horsemen, are entitled to complimentary admission to the Jockey Club bar and lounge, on all race days, excluding Virginia Derby Day. These seats are located around the Adios and Riva Ridge bars on the third floor.   Additionally, horsemen may sit at the high top tables in front of either bar, as well as, the lounge tables behind either bar. Daily reservations must be made with Guest Services to receive tickets and wristbands.

VHBPA Sky Suite & Turf Club Restaurant (Fourth Floor)

Dress Code:  Proper Sky Suite and Turf Club attire includes business casual clothes, dress walking shorts, dress slacks, dresses and suits.  Gentlemen’s jackets are optional.  Absolutely no jeans, torn clothing, tank tops, flip-flops or abbreviated dress permitted!   Individuals not in compliance with the dress code will not be permitted in the Turf Club.  This policy is strictly enforced.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

VHBPA Sky Suite:  Licensed horsemen and VTA* members (up to 25 people per race day) are entitled to complimentarily access the Horsemen’s Sky Suite  with proper credentials and appropriate attire on all race days, excluding Virginia Derby Day and Saturdays during the live thoroughbred meet (depending on  reservations, a suite may be made available, please check with Guest Services). Licensed horsemen and VTA members with daily tickets and wristbands may sit at the Turf Club Bar if seating is unsold. (Please check with the Maître D’ or Turf Club manager upon arrival to see if Turf Club Bar accommodations are available upon arrival.)  There will be tickets and wristbands for the VHBPA suite for the first 25 horsemen / VTA members who show valid credentials to the Guest Services office each race day, excluding Saturdays during the live thoroughbred meet. 

Turf Club Bar & Tables: Licensed horsemen are entitled to complimentary Turf Club Bar seats and Turf Club tables if seats and tables are unsold.  Daily reservations must be made with Guest Services to receive tickets and wristbands.

Virginia Derby Discounts

Horsemen receive complimentary general admission for the Virginia Derby.  All other restaurant, grandstand, and box seat tickets will be discounted $7 per ticket for a horseman plus one guest.  (Jockey & Turf Club tables and Box Seats require the purchase of each seat at the table or box.) Reservations must be made with Guest Services to receive tickets and/or wristbands.  Advanced reservations are highly encouraged.
